Corticosteroids are hormones of the adrenal cortex, which have a number of physiological and pharmacological functions and because of their antiinflmmation effect on tissues, is one of the most useful classes of drugs. It is especially important in the treatment of various inflammatory skin diseases such as dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, seborrhea, pemphigus, psoriasis, lupus, and many other.
In the treatment of hair loss, corticosteroid therapy has a significant place. Kenalog triamcinolone acetonide solution is used for local and systemic use. It has anti-inflammatory function, reduces the immune system and allergic reactions. Because of these characteristics, steroids can find its application in conditions such as alopecia areata, lichen planopilaris, scarring alopecia.
Small doses of corticosteroids are injected intradermally into whole area where hair is thinning, usually once a month. In severe forms of alopecia, it is combined with systemic corticosteroid therapy.
Costicosterid treatment is completelly safe if it is done in a precise low-doses at regular intervals.
